About Me
Hello! My name is Jay Stephens, and I am the Library Media Specialist for E. A. Gibson Elementary School. I am originally from Roanoke, VA. My family has lived in Danville since 2001.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religion from Roanoke College, a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Hollins University, and a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I also earned a Certificate in Non Profit Management from Duke University,
My work experience includes over 30 years as a professional librarian. I served as the Library Director for the Danville Public Library from 2001-2004 and as the Library Director for the Rockingham County Public Library in Eden, NC from 2004-2009. Most recently I was the Library Director for the Halifax County-South Boston Public Library System from 2014-2024.
Lisa, my wife of over 30 years, works for DPS as a cook in the cafeteria at Park Avenue Elementary School. We have two sons, Jon and Ethan. Jon is a graduate of Averett University and has a graduate degree in music education from Liberty University. Jon was recently hired to be the music teacher at G. L. H. Johnson Elementary School in Danville. Ethan is also a graduate of Averett University and was recently hired to be the physical education teacher at Woodberry Hills Elementary School in Danville.
Our family also includes three cats: Maxwell, Sparky, and Big Max.
